Robert “Bob” D. Spellman was born in the family home in the Alvin community, north of Laird, Colorado, on August 29, 1938 to Eldon T. “Bud” and Lois B. (Richards) Spellman. He was the seventh of eight children. Bob passed away April 15, 2019, at the Wray Community District Hospital at the age of 80.

Bob walked with his older siblings to school at Pleasant Valley District 22 through the eighth grade. He attended and graduated from Laird High School in 1957 where he excelled in football and was a leading scorer in the state in six man football his senior year.

After graduation, he worked for a time for his Uncle Ray Richards on his farm in the Kirk, Colorado area and later for Tom Brophy in the Pleasant Valley area, who introduced him to the young woman who later became his wife.

He married Patty Monk, August 22, 1965 and to this union four children were born, Mary, Dallas, Roger and Howard.

Bob and Patty began their life together living in the Pleasant Valley area near her family home. In 1971, when Patty’s father died suddenly of a heart attack, they began farming the Monk land for Patty’s mother and brother, Marion, as well as their own. They raised their family there and continued living there until Bob’s death. Bob was a devoted and loving husband and father. He was a successful farmer, good citizen and enjoyed all the things one does living on a farm.

He is survived by his wife, Patty of 53 years, daughter, Mary of Yuma, CO, sons, Dallas & wife, Pat of Moscow, ID, Roger & wife, Trish of Lincoln, NE, and Howard of Yuma, CO; four step-grandchildren; two grandchildren; brothers, George Spellman & wife, Lois of Kirk, CO, Ralph Spellman & wife, Leann, Tom Spellman & wife, Margaret of Yuma, CO; sisters, Dorothy Schmidt and Peggy Spellman of Wray, CO; Jennie Brown of Yuma, CO, Minnie Schmidt of Haxtun, CO, brother-in-law, Marion Monk of Richardson, TX, sixteen nieces and nephews, many cousins, friends and neighbors.

Preceding Bob in death is his parents, Bud and Lois Spellman, parents-in-law, Bert and Jennie Monk, sister-in-law, Sharon Spellman, brothers-in-law, Cleo Brown, Clifford Schmidt and Chuck Schmidt.

A Visitation/Viewing will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2019, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home in Wray, Colorado.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 19, 2019, 2:00 p.m. at the Yuma United Methodist Church in Yuma, Colorado with Rev. Jaime Nieves officiating. Interment will be held in the Yuma Cemetery in Yuma, Colorado following services.

Memorials may be made to the Wages Fire Department, 17498 Co. Rd. 57, Yuma, CO 80759. Schmidt - Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
