AASU Unit of Dimoria Takes Up Plantation Drive To Restore Lost Glory of Sonapur

DIMORIA: In order to restore the lost glory of Sonapur – a name which the place got from the yellowish hue it had sometimes back because of thickly grown Sonaru trees (a kind of trees with yellow flowers) – AASU (All Assam Students’ Union) unit of Dimoria planted 200 Sonaru saplings on the National Highway-37 there. The programme was carried out in sync with the World Environment Day.

The scenic beauty of Sonapur, derived from golden ‘sonaru’ flowers, is such that the Assamese lyric literature has a profound number of songs with their themes on ‘sonaru’ flowers. However, with the passage of time and deforestation, ‘Sonaru’ trees are getting vanished fast from Sonapur which is also fading.

The programme for plantation of Sonaru saplings named ‘Sonarur pora Sonapur’ was from Digaru Gate to Bali Gate on NH-37. The programme was aimed at bringing about awareness on the lost glory of Sonapur and environment. The office-bearers of the AASU unit of Dimoria who took part in the plantation drive in the presence All Kamrup (M) District Students’ Union general secretary Dibyajyoti Medhi include Dipujena Sarma, Rintu Das, Pranjit Talukdar and others.
