BIG BATTALIONS is now streaming on All 4!

By  |

Good news for our friends in the UK and Ireland: Big Battalions is now streaming on All 4!

Following our private screening of the 1992 miniseries and conversation with screenwriter Hugh Stoddart in the Sid City Social Club earlier this year, we sent a report to Channel 4 demonstrating viewer interest in being able to watch it on demand. Happily, they listened and took the necessary steps to clear the program for streaming/VOD on their proprietary platform. Currently, it’s only available to Channel 4 subscribers in the UK, the Republic of Ireland, Jersey, Guernsey, etc. If enough interest is expressed from outside that region, perhaps they can license it to another streamer and/or make it available on DVD. You can help make that happen by posting about the series on social media with the hashtag #TheBigBattalions and tagging Channel 4.

Official Synopsis

An epic saga of faith and fanaticism that moves between the heart of England, the Holy Land and the ancient hinterlands of Ethiopia. It weaves together the stories of three families – Christian, Muslim and Jewish. The Big Battalions shows how their destinies become entwined by the extreme forces associated with different religions.

EDWARD HOYLAND (Brian Cox), the Archdeacon of Birmingham wants power and loves publicity. When his ambitions are thwarted his life is irrevocably changed and he comes face to face with his faith. His wife, MARTHA (Jane Lapotaire), embittered by his self-interest, is forced to confront the conflict of her marriage and faith when she becomes the victim of a kidnapping.

The series stars Brian Cox, Jane Lapotaire, Alexander Siddig (as Sid El Fadil), Juliet Aubrey, Yoav Tzafir, Malcolm Sinclair, Nadim Sawalha, Behailu Nekeatebeb, and Michael Shannon.

Mel started a fan site for Siddig in 1996, as a way to learn HTML and to promote his charitable endeavors. In 1998, he proposed that it become his official fan site; she quickly agreed and a long-distance friendship was born. You can reach Mel at mel[at]sidcity[dot]net.
