Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri

Frozen strawberry daiquiris are the ultimate poolside thirst quencher.

I love a daiquiri, be it frozen or straight, strawberry or banana. It’s all good.

A daiquiri is essentially a mixture of rum, sugar, and citrus—anything after that is just gilding the lily. A frozen strawberry daiquiri, however, is the ultimate refresher for summer days spent poolside or with your toes buried deep in the sand.

Fresh or Frozen Strawberries?

Many strawberry daiquiri recipes use fresh strawberries, but personally, I find that frozen strawberries help thicken the drink (like a smoothie!) and ensure that the cocktail stays uber chilly. This said, by all means, feel free to use fresh strawberries if you prefer!

What's the Best Rum for a Daiquiri?

Go for a white rum for this recipe over a darker, aged rum or a spiced rum. White rum has a clean, light flavor that works with, instead of against, the fresh flavor of the strawberries. (This said, if dark rum is what you have, go with what you've got!) Mount Gay is a widely available and affordable brand that works well in this cocktail.

Strawberry Daiquiris for a Crowd

This recipe makes a whole pitcher of daiquiris—plenty for a party! It's best to make and serve this drink right after it comes out of the blender while it's still chilled and slushy, so have your glasses (and your guests) ready.

Just want a single serving? No problem. Just scale down the recipe to make as many or as few drinks as you'd like.

You can buy prepared simple syrup for this recipe, but it's easy enough to make it yourself. Here's how!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups white rum

  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup fresh-squeezed lime juice, from about 6 juicy limes

  • 1/4 to 1/3 cup simple syrup, depending on your preferred sweetness

  • 1 16-ounce package frozen strawberries

  • 4 cups ice cubes

  • Strawberries, lime wheels, or little umbrellas for garnish, optional

Method

  1. Pour ingredients into a blender:

Place the rum, 1/2 cup of the lime juice, 1/4 cup of the simple syrup, strawberries, and ice cubes into a blender and pulse until completely blended with a slushy consistency.

  2. Taste for any needed adjustments:

Check the consistency and flavor. Add more lime juice for more tartness or more simple syrup to sweeten, if needed. You may also want more ice to make it slushier in consistency. A daiquiri is not an exact science, so adjust as you see fit.

  3. Pour and serve:

Divide the daiquiris between glasses. Garnish and serve.
