Tolerance and acceptance, that’s the goal for the annual Tolerance Week taking place in Sioux City.

Organizer Jerry Wiener and Holocaust survivor Inge Auerbacher say the event is to educate the public about the Holocaust and remember the tragic era.

For Auerbacher, the ability to share her story while she still is able to travel is extremely important.

She says that as prejudice is still relevant in society across the world, she wants to let kids know there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.

“I’ve met a lot of people, a lot of students, who are now mothers themselves, and have children, you know. And I’m still in touch with a few of them. And they remember. And even to get to one person who is affected by this, it’s such a joy,” said Auerbacher.

A series of events across the city will take place all week started Monday night at 6:30 with a film screening at Western Iowa Tech Community College.
