Description:

William Avenell Mahogany Long Case Clock, Portsmouth, England, c. 1780, the composite brass dial signed in the arch above silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals and chinoiserie-engraved center surrounded by cast spandrels, the hood with arched and dentil-molded pediment adorned with three brass ball-form finials, above a glazed door flanked by brass-mounted fluted columns, over arched trunk door, on an austere base and ogee bracket feet, case ht. 80 1/2 in., with eight-day movement striking on a bell, pendulum, and two iron weights.

Lacking bell. Not guaranteed to be in running order. Pendulum and weights are period. Some loss to silvering on dial. Hood with area of damage just to the left of the top of the right column. Trunk door has key, but does not open (it is pushed in past where the lock should slide in to). Age typical wear to case.
