Big Data Value PPP - characteristics Industry-driven – because it needs to mobilise and transform (both IT and user) industries in order to break a new path to growth and jobs Broad and horizontal – because data challenges appear in most industrial and societal domains – need to achieve synergies and create links with user industries, other PPPs, Societal Challenges, national and regional initiatives 6
- 7. Earth Observation data EO data has large re-use potential... E.g. big climate data, atmospheric data can be used for better weather predictions, vital for smart farming (SC2) EO data can be used for optimising renewable energy production (wind predictions, wave energy predictions) ... but still remains under-used Data from COPERNICUS and other publicly funded EO schemes is often "too big" to be easily re-used Commonalities SC5 and Big Data? EO data/climate data is Big Data H2020 SC5 Work Programme 2016-17 does not address any specific Big Data challenges (the same way as SC1, SC6 and SC7 do). SC5-20-2016: European data hub of the GEOSS information system 7
