Jean Fogelberg

Biography

"The Adventures of Mrs. Almaletta Finks" was written by Leslie Mayer and her daughter, Jean Fogelberg. Leslie's original 1963 manuscript was typed and converted to digital format in 2008 by her daughter Leslie Holder.

Leslie Mayer was born in the Hawaiian Islands and spent her early years at the Kalaupapa Leprosy Settlement, where her father "Doc" Cooke was the superintendent. She attended Woodbury College in Los Angeles in the late 40's and modeled for the Brooks Institute of Photography. She was a commercial and fine artist all her life, and taught art classes to children and adults. Married in 1952, she and her husband Gene raised their three daughters in Lompoc, California. They later moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico where Leslie immersed herself in the local art community, selling her paintings through local galleries as well as outdoor art shows, and teaching art classes. They currently live in Kentucky. Diagnosed with Macular Degeneration in 2000, Leslie has very little sight left and is unable to paint or read, but her imagination and spirit remain.

Jean Fogelberg is the eldest daughter of Gene and Leslie Mayer, and the wife of the late Dan Fogelberg.
