While many remember Samboy Lim as shy and soft-spoken, Jojo Lastimosa fondly recalls him as effortlessly hilarious, especially during their younger years.
As amateur stars, Jolas and Samboy were briefly teammates in the Philippine Amateur Basketball League (PABL) with the Lhuillier Gems and in the all-amateur national team that won the 'golden bronze' at the 1986 Asian Games in Seoul.

“When we were teammates... that time, we were young - not knowing what our future lies and it was an adventure. We had no families then, our future was in front of us, and we didn't know what to make of it," Lastimosa reminisced.
Lim, 61, died on Saturday, December, 23, after being bed-ridden for nine years since suffering from cardiac arrest in a legends game at Ynares Arena in Pasig City.
Jolas bared one facet of Samboy that few people knew.
"The thing about Samboy, I had the opportunity to get to know him... And not everybody knows that he's a funny guy. He had his way of being funny without even trying. When with friends, it just comes out," Lastimosa bared.
Coach JoLas added, "Samboy will always be associated with the fun times; we hung out a lot and did a lot of things together."
