The Milwaukee Bucks first met with Jason Kidd about the possibility of becoming their new head coach on the day after the NBA draft. That was Thursday.

Current coach Larry Drew was not informed of that initial meeting or any that followed. There was no communication until Milwaukee had already hired a new coach on Monday. Drew was then fired from his position as coach, according to an ESPN.com report.

Drew was hired as coach last summer and rewarded with a four-year deal following a long stint with the Atlanta Hawks. The final year of Drew's deal was a team option, but that wouldn't come into play as he would only coach out one season.

Milwaukee finishing the year as the NBA's worst team under Drew, at 15-67 on the season. Much of that was out of Drew's control, however, as key players underperformed across the board. Larry Sanders was injured during a bar fight, O.J. Mayo was overweight and Ersan Ilyasova never lived up to his contract.

Giannis Antetokounmpo was one of few bright spots on the season, but he will now develop under Kidd. He will be paired with No. 2 pick Jabari Parker.
