Directions

  1. Start at Barley village car park and make your way right towards the centre of Barley.
  2. Go over the bridge and at the junction, cross the road, and head right to pass the village hall down Barley Green.
  3. Follow the path, bearing left, and pass through the gate posts, before reaching the side of the Lower Ogden Reservoir.
  4. Keep to the righthand side of the reservoir, over a cattle grid towards Ogden Clough.
  5. Continue along the path and through the trees, before descending towards Upper Ogden Reservoir.
  6. Venture over the stone stile and ascend towards the reservoir.
  7. Follow the yellow waymarked arrow along the path close to the reservoir. Head through a kissing gate and continue along the side of the wall before climbing up towards Ogden Clough.
  8. Pass through a second kissing gate and make your way diagonally right and begin up the stony path. Continue towards the stream, ignoring the warn-away path, and make a right up the hill once you’ve passed a fence. Soon you will reach a wooden waymarker accompanied by a small cairn.
  9. Continue along the path with Boar Clough on your right. Follow the old watercourse along with a line of cairns to bend slightly to the right.
  10. Follow the ascent following the line of cairns as they steer to the right, before swinging to the left where you will see the summit of Pendle Hill.
  11. Continue past the triangulation point and down towards the wall. Upon reaching the wall, turn right and walk along the near side of the wall.
  12. Upon reaching the Pendle Way guide post, turn right away from the wall and onto the path.
  13. Make your way down the steps following the side of the wall at the bottom before passing through a kissing gate.
  14. Head diagonally right following the yellow arrow and across the field. Pass along the side of a fence surrounding the tree before passing through another kissing gate.
  15. Follow the path through the field, keeping to the lefthand side of the wall, before passing through the kissing gate. Head diagonally right across the field past a telephone pole and through another kissing gate. Pass a third kissing gate (this one in a wall) and turn left along the path, through another kissing gate.
  16. After this, turn immediately right. Just before reaching a pair of cottages, take a left to cross a wooden kissing gate and continue straight.
  17. Next, take the lane which goes straight past a large tree (ignoring the lane going left over a cattle grid and the stile to the right).
  18. Keep on the path with the wall on your left, passing another kissing gate, and making your way through a field and through a kissing gate, and over a wooden footbridge.
  19. Follow the path enclosed by fences before reaching a short cobbled section of the path. Here, pass through the metal kissing gate and take a left down the metalled lane.
  20. Head through the stone gateposts following the lane as it bends to the left before turning right over the wooden footbridge and following the yellow Pendle Way arrows.
  21. Follow the path left uphill past the tree and past the side of a wall. Continue past the wooden waymarker and over the footbridge before coming through the kissing gate.
  22. Follow the path alongside the stream before reaching the road.
  23. When you reach the road, turn right and follow it through Barley centre. Before reaching the Pendle Inn, pass the gap in the wall on the lefthand side of the road near the children’s play area. Follow the path between the road and the play area and over the footbridge to return to the car park.
