1820 House restaurant near Skaneateles Lake closes indefinitely

1820 House

The original Brae Loch Inn opened in 1946 in an old farmhouse in Borodino on Skaneateles Lake. The building was later Millards at the Summit and is now the c.1820 House.

SPAFFORD, N.Y. - The 1820 House restaurant, located inside a historic 19th century farmhouse overlooking Skaneateles Lake, has closed.

A post on the restaurant’s Facebook page announced the closure, citing “unfortunate circumstances.” The restaurant will be closed for an “unknown amount of time,” according to the post.

Chef-owner Richard Schreiner opened the restaurant, located at 1715 E. Lake Road, in 2004. The site was previously home to Millards at the Summit and the Cherrywood Inn.

A recorded message on the restaurant’s voicemail reads:

“It is my pure regret to say that I’m going to have to close for the next few months due to circumstances that are beyond my control. In the next few months, I will be reevaluating my move forward. Regardless, I would like to thank everybody that has helped me make my dream come true for the last 15 years. Again, I’m completely gutted that I have to do this, but I’m going to have to close for the next few months to reevaluate my move forward. Thank you very much everybody for all your support and help.”

The restaurant was known for both its food, a worldly menu of steak, chicken, chops, seafood and other fare, and its hilltop vistas offering some of the most picturesque al fresco dining in Central New York.
