Description

In this writing activity, students will analyze the historical context surrounding 9/11 and the creation of the Patriot Act, assessing the impact of these events as a turning point on U.S history. Students will analyze both George W. Bush's speech and the growth of anti-terrorism laws.

Each writing sample is designed for 1 paragraph on the first page, and at least another paragraph on the second page. These are duplicated pages, as the set is translated into English and Spanish (pages 1-2 in English, pages 2-4 in Spanish).

Please note, pages 2 and 4 of every file is made up of the second question prompt and lines for students to write. I don't want there to be any misconception here, as Page 1 and 3 will have the prompts/documents in English and Spanish, pages 2 and 4 have additional space for students to write. This makes printing easier, and teachers will not need additional paper depending on the writing of their students. TPT might list it as more pages, but it is only 4 pages in total. Just wanted to clarify! There is no sample writing or exemplars, students will create their own responses.

Note regarding Short Essay files: These packets are designed to practice two of the following strategies in each purchase. I intentionally created a wide plethora that allows students to practice a different strategy in each one. Every lesson has students practice historical context writing, but the second question is always different. Specifically, students will practice "Part 2 SAQ" questions, where students analyze the historical context of two documents before either explaining a relationship between documents (cause and effect; similarity/difference; turning point), or analyzing reliability (explaining reliability based on an author's point of view, bias, audience, or purpose). If you purchase all of these files, of course, students will be able to practice EVERY type of question, but each file will only have two questions to practice.
