Arculus pitches in

Sir David Arculus has effectively ruled himself out as the new Trinity Mirror chairman by becoming a non-executive at Pearson.

Sir David, the O2 chairman, had been approached by Trinity Mirror as a potential replacement for Sir Victor Blank, who now chairs Lloyds TSB.

"I suppose having taken O2 from being a relatively small company to being a relatively big company in the last couple of years I'm obviously thinking that maybe a big operation will come along," he said.

"The whole venture capital world and private equity is also an interesting pitch. I am just going to reflect on my options."
