What is Traces about?

Series two of traces picks up four months after the conclusion of the first season.

Former lab assistant Emma Hedges (Molly Windsor) is now in training to become a forensic chemist.

She is on the verge of seeing her mother’s murder case resolved in the eyes of the law once and for all.

Daniel (Martin Compston) is due to provide evidence against his father in the High Court — but can Emma and Daniel’s relationship withstand the pressure and will justice be served?

Meanwhile Emma’s friends and mentors at The Scottish Institute of Forensic Science and Anatomy are investigating a campaign of deadly bombings, with homemade devices exploding all over Dundee — with critical clues hidden inside the bombs themselves.

With pressure mounting and public expectation through the roof, forensic work is especially difficult because only fragments of the bombs survive each blast.

When body parts wash up in a nearby loch, professors Sarah Gordon (Laura Fraser) and Kathy Torrance (Jennifer Spence) need to get to the bottom of the mystery.

But all the while their work is being questioned, leading to professional and personal allegiances becoming complicated.

But when a bomb fails to detonate it the forensic gift offers a glimmer of hope.

But can the team track down the bomber before their identity goes up in smoke for good?

Where was Traces filmed?

Although traces is set in the beautiful Scottish landscape in and around Dundee, most of the series was actually shot in Manchester.

Speaking about filming the show, Laura Fraser told RadioTimes.com: "I didn't actually get to film in Scotland for this.

"It's set in Dundee but they actually only shot for a week in Dundee. It was all Manchester."
