Signage is posted at an entrance to Southeastern University, seen Tuesday, June 28, 2022, in Hammond, La.

More than a week after a disruption to its computer systems at Southeastern Louisiana University, Wi-Fi has returned to student residence halls, the union and the library, the university said Tuesday night.

"Access is beginning to return in these areas tonight!" the university said in a tweet.

The university's website, down in the days following the disruption, has been back for several days, as well.

But email still appeared to be out on Wednesday.

Dakota Hill, who graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2015 and now works in Maryland, said in a phone interview Wednesday that the university told graduates they would be able to use their university email as their personal email "as long as we wanted."

He's used that email address since he was a student, Hill said, but it's been inaccessible since the weekend of Feb. 24.

Hill said there's been little communication from Southeastern about the disruption in services.

"The communication aspect is the biggest thing," Hill said. "The communication is horrible."

On Tuesday, Southeastern posted on Facebook its latest update.

"As you know, we have been working to address a recent network security incident that required the University to take many systems offline," Southeastern said in the statement. "We are also supporting the State Police in their ongoing investigation of the incident."

Capt. Nick Manale, head of public affairs for the Louisiana State Police, said on Wednesday that the agency "continues to investigate this matter with our partners in the Louisiana Cyber Investigators Alliance."

The alliance was established by the state legislature in 2020 and includes federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.

While Southeastern has said that police are investigating, administrators have given few details about what caused the outage and whether it was a cyberattack, though some experts say it shows the hallmarks of one.

"We have made significant progress, and many of our systems have been restored. Efforts are underway to restore the remaining systems to normal operation," the university said Tuesday.

Southeastern said it's developing an "academic continuity plan" for classes that include an online component, which will be communicated to students by their instructors.

"For students and faculty, the disruption caused by this event is similar to what we have experienced in recent years from storms and public health emergencies," the university said. "As in those circumstances, we will adapt policy and practice appropriately and execute both consistently."
