Jamaican-American singer hospitalised following watersports accident in Miami Beach, Florida

Sean Kingston is in a "stable" condition following a jet ski accident on Sunday (29 May). The Jamaican-American singer was rushed to hospital after crashing into a small bridge in Miami Beach, Florida.

Kingston, born Kisean Anderson, was racing his jet ski along Miami Beach on Sunday evening, accompanied by a female passenger. His watercraft reportedly struck the Palm Island Bridge around 6pm. A passing boat rescued Kingston and his passenger from the water and Miami Fire Rescue brought them to the Jackson Memorial Hospital. Though Kingston's condition was originally described as "critical", he is now stable. The woman who was injured with Kingston is alert and speaking to investigators, according to Miami's Local10.com.

"Sean Kingston is now stabilised and has moved from the trauma unit to ICU," his publicist, Joseph Carozza, told Billboard yesterday. "Sean's family thanks everyone for their prayers and support during this time." Though a spokesman said authorities are looking into the crash, "nothing at this point would indicate that alcohol played a role".

Kingston first came to attention in 2007 when his debut single, Beautiful Girls, topped the US and UK charts for four weeks. He has since scored hits with Justin Bieber and Natasha Bedingfield. His music is a mixture of pop, R&B and reggae, which he describes as "the Sean Kingston genre".

His third album is expected later this year.
