Cool fall mornings are best tackled with a piping hot bowl of creamy oatmeal. Milk is usually our number one go-to for making this breakfast even creamier, and we’re guessing it is for most of you, too.

Today, though, we’re trying something different. We’re sidelining milk and cream to share five of our favorite dairy-free ways to make the creamiest oatmeal ever.

1. Whipped Banana

If you’ve never had whipped banana, let this be the time give it a try! After adding whipped banana to your oats, we’re pretty sure you’ll never look back.

How to do it: Use half a banana for each bowl of oatmeal. Puree it in a food processor, or using a hand mixer, until it’s soft and super creamy, then stir it into the oats after they’re finished cooking.

2. Silken Tofu

Silken tofu is the fast track to an ultra creamy bowl of oatmeal.

How to do it: We recommend whisking in a few tablespoons after the oats are finished cooking. And don’t worry, the tofu is tasteless so your brown sugar will still come through strong!

3. Coconut Milk

Coconut milk is a wonderfully creamy indulgence in morning oatmeal!

How to do it: Before spooning cooked oats into bowls, blend in 1/4 cup of coconut milk for extra creaminess. If you’re feeling indulgent, use creamy canned coconut milk, otherwise stick with the carton variety.

4. Applesauce

Not only will applesauce make for a creamier bowl of oatmeal, the flavor is out of this world.

How to do it: Add applesauce after cooking the oats.

5. Nut butter

Take your pick between peanut, almond, cashew and sunflower seed butter.

How to do it: A couple tablespoons not only makes your oats thick and creamy, but it adds a boost of protein to your morning.
