Before our kids came along, one of my husband and I’s favorite things to do together was walking our two big dogs. I was worried that would change when babies came, so I knew that the right stroller would be key to ensuring the pups still got their adventures in. As a product reviewer, I’ve had the opportunity to try several strollers in the few months I’ve been a mom. While they each have their pros and cons, our second kiddo coming into the picture had me rethinking our stroller needs. I needed something to fit both of them, that was sturdy, yet still folded up well for our relatively small home. Premium and practical products are what I’ve come to expect from Nuna, so I knew I had to try their newest single-to-double stroller, the DEMI next ($950), to see if it would work for our growing family.

Shaking Up the World of Luxury Strollers

If you’re not familiar with the brand, allow me to introduce you to Nuna, a luxury brand for parents around the world. With a mission to “bring practical and functional designs to life for families,” Nuna makes strollers, car seats, play yards, among other baby essentials. Inspired by Dutch design, Nuna factors craftsmanship and quality into each product they make.

This isn’t my first time testing out a Nuna product. In fact, I actually reviewed one of their travel systems (a stroller and infant car seat) earlier this year. I absolutely loved this stroller for my first baby. The lightweight nature of it allowed us to go everywhere we wanted with him without the hassle of a big, heavy stroller. We still use it all of the time for quick adventures! However, things got a little hairy when our second little guy joined our family. While the PIPA urbn + TRIV next Travel System is great, it only accommodates one child. With 2 under 2, we needed a new solution… fast.

Meet the All-New DEMI next

The DEMI next is Nuna’s second stroller that can accommodate 2 kids, the other being the DEMI grow. The DEMI next includes a rider board, one seat, and an infant car seat ring. Other accessories, such as a bassinet and second sibling seat, are able to be purchased separately. With these, there are over 25 configurations possible, which is quite impressive from a design perspective.

Unboxing the stroller was pretty simple. Besides the strollers that are in one piece already, it was definitely on the simpler side of installation. As a vehement hater of reading directions, I was pleased that I was able to install it without using the user manual. While that might not be recommended, frankly, I find it to be a test of excellent design. After all, there are days where grandparents, babysitters, and others take the stroller… and I’d rather not give them a 20-minute tutorial on how to use it. When I initially unboxed mine, I set it up with the infant car seat ring (which fits my PIPA urbn car seat), as well as the second seat on the bottom for my toddler. I played around a bit and ended up switching the second seat out for the rider board, which easily folds into the basket when it’s not in use.

Taking It to the Streets

Despite it being a chilly, Michigan winter day, my husband and I loaded the troops up and took the stroller for its first test run around the neighborhood. I’m not going to lie, I was a little nervous about how my toddler would handle the rider board, but he ended up absolutely loving it! It did take some training for him to learn not to put his feet down on the ground while we were moving, as well as where to put his hands, but once he learned, it was perfect for him to be able to get on and off easily. It accommodates up to 50 lbs, so he’ll be able to use it for a good while. For longer walks, travel, and zoo days, we’ll likely put the seat in there for him, but I was so pleased with the ease of the rider board. The infant ring worked super well, too, keeping my newborn safe and secure throughout our walk.

Perhaps my favorite part of the entire stroller is just its overall sturdiness. It really feels well-made and like it will last us through multiple kids. There are several features throughout the stroller that are subtle, but surely appreciated by parents. For example, there are fenders over the big wheels. I giggled when I first saw them because I assumed they’d prevent mud from flicking up… but I am guessing they are actually for toddler toes to not get squished in the wheels. Brilliant!

The handle easily comes up and down to accommodate for different heights pushing the stroller, as well as to give you a bit of space with the rider board. I could use one more setting, as sometimes I feel a little close to my kiddo when he’s using the rider board. The folding is also excellent, including a latch to keep it folded. This is one of my grievances with some of my other strollers… they constantly come undone while “folded.” Another thing I noticed is the elevated seat height compared to other strollers. This is probably to make room for the second seat underneath, but it also really helps to maintain eye contact when I need to get on my child’s level. There are plenty of times on walks and other family outings I need to correct something, which always helps to be at their level.

Is This the Next Stroller for Your Fam?

I knew Nuna’s products were great before trying the DEMI next, so my expectations were high for this product. I’m so pleased that the brand not only met, but exceeded, my expectations for the stroller. While there are a few things I wish could be improved, like a slightly longer handle and the possibility to buy a second seat with the stroller purchase, it has consistently performed for my family as an excellent, everyday stroller. I’m ecstatic that we’ve been able to continue our family dog walks post-kids, thanks to the sturdiness and ease of use of the DEMI next. I know this is one product that’ll be around our home and kiddos for a long, long time.
