Now the 78-year-old has confirmed that his next major release will be the blended Scotch which is said to embody his reputation as “the Cockney Scotsman”.

In a promo statement, Sir Rod says: “Wolfie’s is a rascal of a thing and with just a sip the whisky takes you back to the good old days.

“Fine-tuned and perfectly balanced, Wolfie’s is a delight both over ice and mixed into a favourite cocktail.”

He adds: “It’s a fine tipple, whether you’re partying with friends, celebrating a Celtic win or reminiscing with family.”

But the whisky will be competing on the shelf alongside the Jack & Victor blend from Still Game creators Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill.

While David Beckham also has his own Haig Club Clubman tipple and MMA superstar Conor McGregor launched his Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey in 2018.

Even Rod’s fellow music icon Bob Dylan got into the drinks biz last year with his Heaven’s Door Straight Bourbon.

Rod’s Wolfie’s Whisky is 40 per cent proof and claims to be “balanced with flavours of warming cinnamon, fresh vanilla and baked apple” along with a “unique blend of rock ‘n’ roll roots, Americana and Scottish heritage”.

It is made “on the banks of Loch Lomond” by a mystery distillery with the £35 a pop bottles emblazoned on the base with the words Rhythm of My Heart - the title of Rod’s 1991 hit - and available online from June 19.

The three-times married dad-of-eight adds: “For me, Wolfie’s depicts the carefree behaviour of my more mischievous days and the excitement of what life still has to offer – let the good times roll.”
