Medinilla speciosa

Medinilla speciosa

$10.00

One packet contains 12 seeds.

The shrub Medinilla speciosa is easily recognized for its bright pink clusters of flowers and berries. In summer months, tiny flowers grow in panicles with matching pink stems, and they are followed by hot pink berries that mature to purple. These fruits give the plant the common name "Showy Asian Grapes", though they are not edible. Native to the mountain forests of Borneo, Java, and the Philippines, M. speciosa is a woody, evergreen shrub growing to about 2 m (7 ft) and has large, leathery leaves. Though semi-epiphytic in the wild, the species can grow surprisingly well as a houseplant, or in an outdoor pot in tropical or subtropical climates. Indoors they thrive in indirect light, moist soil, and with regular misting.

Suitable for outdoor planting in USDA plant hardiness zones 10 to 11
