Malaysia crush England to reach badminton final

MALAYSIA are one step away from the mixed team gold after beating England 3-0 in the semi-finals at the National Exhibition Centre on Monday (August 1).

Chan Peng Soon-Cheah Yee See, who were fielded instead of Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing, started the ball rolling when they superbly came from behind to topple world No. 11 Marcus Ellis-Lauren Smith 12-21, 21-18, 21-13 in the mixed doubles.

Debutant Ng Tze Yong stood tall to beat an experienced Toby Penty 21-13, 21-14 to give the team a 2-0 lead.

Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik sealed the tie for Malaysia by getting the better of Ben Lane-Sean Vendy with a 21-17, 21-18 victory.

It was their fourth win against the pair.

Malaysia will face either India or Singapore who are due to play later today for the gold-medal tie.
