MONTY GONE

Full Monty star Hugo Speer fired ‘after inviting young woman to trailer while completely NAKED’

FULL Monty’s Hugo Speer has been sacked from the film’s Disney reboot for allegedly inviting a woman into his trailer while naked.

A runner, in her 20s, says the incident happened when she knocked on his door.

She says the married star gestured for her to join him.

Speer, 54, denies her claims.

He had been warned for allegedly walking around his trailer naked before getting the boot for apparently inviting in a woman.

She says she was sent to knock on the actor’s door and claims he answered without any clothes on.

The woman reported his behaviour to bosses on the Disney+ series reboot of the 1997 hit movie.

They took immediate action and terminated his contract.

Dad-of-two Speer, 54, married to writer Vivienne Harvey, denies all the allegations surrounding last month’s incident.

The star was said to have defended his actions by telling producers: “All actors walk around their trailer stark b****** naked.”

But Disney+ decided to give him the boot after an investigation.

The US media giant confirmed to The Sun yesterday that the popular actor’s contract had been terminated with immediate effect.

Speer, seen jogging in London yesterday, has lined up lawyers and is determined to clear his name.

An insider on set during location shoots in Sheffield and Manchester claimed to The Sun: “Speer’s sacking has absolutely rocked the cast and crew.

“But he’d already been warned for supposedly walking around his trailer naked.”

The insider added: “He claimed his towel had slipped from his waist when he opened the door to a woman runner.

“But there was no sign of anything to hide his modesty, and he apparently fully exposed himself to the girl before beckoning her inside.

“The woman was horrified and did not consider entering his trailer for a second.

“She was upset, and then angry, and had no hesitation in reporting his behaviour.”

Police are not currently involved.

But Speer’s sacking has sparked chaos with scriptwriters forced to change plotlines for the much-anticipated TV follow-up to the British comedy movie.

Cameras started rolling in March for the eight-hour series featuring cast members from the Bafta-winning original including Robert Carlyle, Mark Addy, Lesley Sharp, Paul Barber, Steve Huison and Tom Wilkinson.

Harrogate-born Speer was recast in his role as fan favourite Guy.

The reboot was to follow the original characters — and their children and grandkids — as they navigate society’s “crumbling healthcare, education and employment sectors”.

Insiders said Disney+ production bosses were fully aware of the irony of sacking a top star for stripping naked on The Full Monty set.

The last scene of the comedy movie classic sees the cast shed their clothes to raise funds to pay off debts.

Speer’s role was as a hunky would-be dancer who added sex appeal to the line up of steelworkers-turned-strippers.

At his on-screen rehearsal in the film, Guy had no singing or dancing talents but landed a place in the troupe after whipping off his trousers.

His physical prowess cemented him a space on the stage when he and the gang went starkers.

The Full Monty grossed £207million globally despite a budget of just £2.8million — making it the highest-grossing film in the UK until it was outsold by Titanic.

Executive producer Simon Beaufoy had said about the TV relaunch of the blockbuster movie: “We’re chuffed to bits to get all the Monty Men back together again — now with a chaotic entourage of children, grandchildren, pets and assorted hangers-on — to see what life in Sheffield is like 25 years on.”

Lee Mason, director of scripted content for Disney+, added before Speer’s sacking: “Twenty-five years ago Simon introduced us to a group of funny, fearless and resilient unemployed working-class men from Sheffield and the world fell in love with them.

“We’re delighted to reunite the original cast for this brand-new series on Disney+ to catch up with these iconic characters and what they’ve been up to since we last saw them on stage in all their glory, and we can’t wait to introduce a host of exciting new faces and characters.”

Speer starred in TV hits The Bill and Heartbeat before landing the career-boosting role of Guy.

Most of his subsequent work has been on TV, including Men Behaving Badly, Clocking Off, The Last Detective, The Rotters’ Club, Death in Paradise, and the 2005 BBC adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Bleak House.

In recent years he has starred as Inspector Valentine in the new version of Father Brown on the BBC, and played Lucius in the historical fantasy drama Britannia, produced by Sky Atlantic and Amazon Prime.

The Leeds fan married Glasgow-born actress, writer and director Vivienne in 2015 and they have two daughters.

Disney+ told The Sun: “Recently, we were made aware of allegations of inappropriate conduct by Hugo Speer on the set of a commissioned production.

“As is policy, an investigation was launched. Upon its completion, the decision was made to terminate his contract, with immediate effect.”

Last night a spokesman for Hugo Speer told The Sun: “He denies all allegations and will be challenging them.”
