The Sunday Times

NV Caveau des Jacobins Crémant du Jura
Majestic, £17.99 (12%)
France
More and more of us are embracing French crémant as a lighter, less pricey alternative to champagne. A palatable blend of chardonnay and pinot noir, this has plenty of uplifting apple and citrus flavour.

NV Blanc de Noirs Champagne
Waitrose, £19.49 (12.5%)
France
Down from £23.99, this is a great buy. Derived entirely from pinot noir, the most structured of the champagne grapes, it has inviting toasty aromas with a lively, lip-smacking finish.

2020 Specially Selected Roussanne
Aldi, £6.99 (13%)
France
You don’t see much roussanne about, but the grape’s peachy, nutty character makes it an interesting change from chardonnay. This example finishes fresh and clean.

2020 Taste the Difference Gaillac Blanc
Sainsbury’s, £8
