5 Best Beaches in Split, Croatia

Hugging the shore of the mesmerising Adriatic Sea, the sun-soaked city of Split is naturally a top summer destination due to its prime location, magnificent Mediterranean climate, and rich history. If you’re gearing up for a holiday in this enchanting corner of Croatia, chances are you’re eager to uncover the best beaches that Split has to offer. Although the beaches here lean towards pebbly shores, their charm lies in the crystal-clear, shallow waters, creating an ideal setting for leisurely swims. Adventure enthusiasts won’t be disappointed either, as a variety of exhilarating water sports await, catering to the thrill-seekers in your group. Also, most of the best beaches in Split can easily be reached from the city by foot or local transport, which makes combining city sightseeing and soaking up the sun that little bit easier! Keep reading to discover the five best beaches in Split worth visiting on your next holiday.

Bacvice Beach

Undoubtedly one of the best beaches in Split (and most well-known), Bacvice Beach is a vibrant haven located just a stone’s throw from the city centre. Renowned for its soft sandy shores and shallow waters, it’s the ideal spot for families with children. Bacvice is not only a sunbather’s paradise but also a hub for the traditional Croatian game of picigin, where the aim is to keep the ball in the air and out of the water for as long as possible! There’s a selection of sun chairs and umbrellas available for rent, as well as numerous snack stands, restaurants, and beach bars (such as the lively  Kavala Beach Bar) nearby.

Firule Beach

Firule Beach, a mere 1.5 km away from the bustling city centre, offers a laid-back atmosphere. This sandy beach gently slopes into the crystal clear water of the bay, making it perfect for swimming. Beachgoers can also enjoy various water sports or simply unwind under the shade of pine trees that fringe the shoreline. When you’re ready for a break from the sun and sand, make your way to the nearby Dvor, a Michelin Guide restaurant serving up fish, steak and fowl on an open grill. The restaurant also boasts a beautiful garden patio, offering the perfect spot to relax and soak in the stunning views with a glass of local wine.

You can walk to Firule Beach from the Old Town, or if you have a car there are a few parking spaces that can be found just above the beach.

Kasjuni Beach

For those craving a touch of nature along with their beach experience, Kasjuni Beach is an idyllic choice. Nestled at the foot of Marjan Hill, this pebbly beach is surrounded by lush greenery. The tranquil ambience, azure waters, and stunning views of the Adriatic make Kasjuni a favourite among both locals and visitors. The dog-friendly beach is also home to one of the best beach clubs in Split, Joe’s Beach Bar, located at the upper end of the cove. This is a great place to grab a cocktail or a delicious bite to eat while taking in the sea views.

Jezinac Beach

Tucked away in a quiet cove on the southern side of Marjan Hill, Jezinac Beach exudes a secluded and romantic charm. The beach is located within walking distance from Diocletian’s Palace and nestled in the southern foothills of the majestic Marjan Hill Forest Park, offering a peaceful retreat surrounded by pine trees. As you soak up the sun on its pebbled shores, you’ll be delighted to find plenty of amenities at your fingertips. From beachside cafes serving up refreshing drinks to shower facilities – there’s also the enchanting sight of a small castle perched in the distance, adding a touch of historical charm to the scenery. You can easily reach Jezinac Beach on foot from Split’s main waterfront promenade (around 25 minutes).

Obojena Svjetlost Beach

Obojena Svjetlost, also known as Kastelet Beach, is a small pebble beach tucked in the green foothills of Marjan Hill Forest Park – perfect if you’re seeking a more peaceful beach experience. Known for its clear turquoise waters, this beach is a delightful spot to soak up the sun and enjoy a refreshing swim. However, there are no trees on the beach, which means there is little shade. The beach is mostly pebbly and can be quite steep in some parts, yet the shallow and clean water is considered to be child-friendly. It’s worth noting that amenities are quite limited here, so go prepared with your own provisions and other equipment you need for comfort.

The beach is around 3 km away from the town centre and can be reached by foot, car, taxi, or the number 12 bus. Be aware that the walking path down to the beach from the main road is quite steep and not ideal for those with limited mobility.
