Although quite a small fish, the Skunk Loach is active and best kept in an aquarium with plenty of room. As with other loaches, a fine smooth or sandy substrate is essential to avoid damage to the fishes barbels, and plenty of hiding spots should be provided. Despite its small size, Skunk Loaches can be quite troublesome, and are well known to cause problems in community aquariums. Their tendency to harass other fish can be tempered by keeping in groups, allowing aggression to be spread more naturally amongst the group. Skunk Loaches are best kept with other sizeable, hardy fish, or in a larger community of other loaches. In the right tank, with the right tankmates, the Skunk Loach is an active and bold little fish which will scavenge and dig around the aquarium. Skunk Loaches will adapt to a wide range of water conditions, although medium-soft water is preferred.
