The Bulgarian folk band, Bulgarika, pictured, returns to Arcata for a concert of traditional music on Bulgarian folk instruments. Singer Donka Koleva brings her vocal talents with songs of varied regions of Bulgaria. The performance features unique instruments: the gadulka, a bowed rebec; the kaval, an endblown shepherd’s flute; the tambura, a long-necked lute and the tupan, a goatskin drum. The audience will hear music in complex rhythms, done in traditional arrangements. The second half of the evening will be devoted to dance music. Members of the Humboldt Folk Dancers will show the audience easy, basic steps for those who wish to join in the dancing. This event will be held Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Synapsis Studio, 212 G St., Suite 102, in Eureka. Tickets are $12 general and $10 for seniors and students.
