In a bid to acquire a piece of rock 'n' roll history, collectors are gearing up to dig deep into their pockets as the 1972 Grammy Trustee Award presented to John Lennon goes up for auction through the renowned Gotta Have Rock And Roll auction house.

Each member of The Beatles, including Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, received the coveted statuettes in 1972, two years after the band's breakup, acknowledging their 'significant contributions to the field of recording.' Surprisingly, John Lennon, true to his renegade spirit, wanted no part of the accolade. "I'm not a Beatle anymore, you can keep it," he declared to the president of the Grammys at the time, as reported by Gotta Have Rock And Roll to TMZ.
Undeterred, Lennon bestowed the golden gramophone award upon the head of Apple Records, who also held the position of President of Naras The Grammys. The award, mounted on a wooden base with an inscribed plaque, is a testament to the National Academy Of Recording Artists And Sciences' recognition of The Beatles' monumental impact on the recording industry.

Historic Bid and Authenticity

As of now, the bidding for this legendary trophy stands at $200,000, with more than four days left before the auction's closure on Friday. Estimates from the auction house suggest that the final price tag could skyrocket to an impressive $300,000 to $500,000, a report in Daily Mail stated. The auction winner will receive a letter from the executive confirming the details and a Gotta Have Rock And Roll certificate of authenticity, emphasizing the museum-quality status of the trophy.

Rare Beatles Treasures on the Block

The auction doesn't stop with Lennon's Grammy. Gotta Have Rock And Roll is offering an array of rare Beatles memorabilia, including handwritten lyrics, a 1964 signed US tour contract, an autographed setlist from 1963, and personal items belonging to John Lennon, such as his sunglasses, fountain pen, and a matchbook. Also up for grabs is a guitar strap used by Lennon during a 1969 performance and a classic 1960 Hofner bass guitar owned, played, and autographed by Paul McCartney.

Enduring Legacy of The Beatles

The Beatles, originating in Liverpool in 1960, became global sensations with their debut studio album in 1963. The band's legacy endures through timeless albums like Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Abbey Road, Let It Be, Revolver, Rubber Soul, and The Beatles (White Album). With over 600 million units sold worldwide, The Beatles remain the most successful musical artists in the history of the US Billboard charts.

Unrivaled Achievements

More than 50 years post-breakup, The Beatles still hold records for the most number-one albums on the UK Albums Chart (15), the most number-one hits on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart (20), and the most singles sold in the UK (21.9 million).
