Timmons VW Golf GTI wins Car and Driver Award

Timmons VW of Long Beach is proud to announce that Car and Driver magazine has named the 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI to the magazine’s prestigious “10Best” list for 2022. It is the 16th consecutive year that the GTI has been awarded the honor.

“The Volkswagen GTI’s greatest strength has always been its combination of the special and the everyday. Well before the arrival of the new eighth-generation car, the GTI has been one of our most-awarded 10Besters—this marks its 19th appearance since 1983,” said the editors of Car and Driver. “It has never been hard to see its appeal, that of a bona-fide German performance car with both an affordable price tag, plus the practicality of five seats, good fuel economy, and more cabin volume than some compact crossovers.”

“We are thrilled to see the Golf GTI on the 10Best list for the 16th straight year,” said Scott Keogh, President and CEO, Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. “The GTI has been the definition of fun-to-drive for nearly 40 years and the eighth-generation model is no different. It is the heart and soul of our brand, and a real-world reminder that the Volkswagen enthusiast spirit is alive and well.”

The Car and Driver annual “10Best” list features 10 of the magazine’s most favored new vehicles. The vehicles are judged on value, fun and mission fulfillment. Nominees consist of all-new vehicles, those with significant updates, and 2021 10Best winners. The competition combines cars, trucks and SUVs; all vehicles must fall under the base-MSRP cap of $90,000 and need to be on sale in the U.S. by January 2022.

The 2022 Golf GTI continues the Volkswagen tradition of affordable performance it has built since its U.S. debut in 1983. More than 40 years later, the eighth-generation icon embodies the very same formula—refinement, style, power, and playful performance.

With a completely new electronic architecture, this is the Golf GTI for the digital age. A new, digitally-networked world of displays and controls enables the driver to customize the look and technology of their Golf GTI more intuitively, and in greater detail, than ever before. At the same time, drivers have greater control of handling characteristics. The new vehicle dynamics system makes its debut in Mk8 Golf family, controlling the XDS® electronic differential lock, the VAQ electronically-controlled, torque-sensing, limited-slip differential, and also the lateral dynamics of the optional DCC® adaptive damping system.

Our new Golf GTI is also more powerful than ever before. Its 241-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged direct-injection EA888 evo4 TSI® engine, with maximum torque of 273 pound-feet, can be coupled with a standard manual six-speed transmission or an optional seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (DSG®).

The Golf GTI will be featured in Car and Driver’s January 2022 “10Best” issue. For more information on Car and Driver’s “10Best” for 2022 visit: https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a38254154/10best-2022/
