ayaka nakamura's charm

The rough matiere (texture) as if one were witnessing the formation of the earth, and at the same time, the delicate sense of color that can be felt.
ayaka nakamura's works have a mysterious power to sharpen the viewer's senses.

She says that since she was a small child, if you handed her a pencil, she would spend all her time drawing.
She originally grew up in a family with a strong interest in living abroad and homestays, and experienced a homestay in the U.S. during her junior high school years. She also experienced a homestay in Oregon, U.S.A. again between her junior and senior years of high school.
After returning to Japan, Nakamura attended an advanced school in Japan, but was torn between medical school and art school because he wanted to "find value and bring joy to places where people are lacking," which was his main goal.
As a result, he was accepted to art school, and while experimenting with various methods of expression, he arrived at his current style.

During his time at Musashino Art University, he was involved in animation and video, and was eager to engage in methods of expression other than painting.
This experience has supported his ability to create profound expressions with a real sense of reality that goes beyond simply applying paints.

He also references foreign artists such as Anselm Kiefer and Cy Twombly.
Kiefer's collage of various materials, which is as if the earth were directly transformed into a painting, with its massive matiere and enormous scale, has certainly influenced nakamura's style.

The rising reputation of ayaka nakamura

Using platforms such as Tugboat, ayaka nakamura has been steadily but steadily accumulating a track record of sales of his works.
As of 2023, the unit price per issue is about 25,000 yen.
He has been consistently producing and presenting his works, and is gaining a rare reputation as a young artist.
On the other hand, he believes that the value of a painting does not depend on its size, and he has established a range of prices depending on the work.
His works have attracted much attention from overseas collectors in New York and France, and are expected to become more difficult to obtain in the future.

ayaka nakamura's view of the artist

nakamura has always wanted to be a traveler, having been fascinated by a picture book about a black cat traveling the world when she was a child.
He has stayed in about 10 countries so far. He experienced fulfilling time in Mongolia and the Middle East.
He has been painting pictures of the landscapes he photographed (he paints once, destroys it, paints over it, destroys it again, and repeats the process, which reveals the layers underneath and mixes several views), and also expresses the energy of the land and the atmosphere of the people he sensed.
Through this process, he hopes to share with the viewer "what was there before it became words.
Nakamura's paintings reveal the nature of words, which can have different meanings depending on the background and the recipient.

Nakamura also incorporates things he sees or finds in his daily life into his works.
He has always loved video and graphic expression, and his style is to focus on a single point while overlooking the whole, or to collage found objects (i.e., found objects) as he sees fit.

Nakamura also says that his "output is life-size.
With larger works, it is easier to directly project one's own power, and one can see one's life-size self.
In contrast, smaller sized works have a density that is as strong as that of larger works because the same amount of energy is concentrated on a small screen. In fact, when viewing her works on display rather than in real life, even small pieces of around 30 cm in length give the viewer a sense of scale that could lead one to mistakenly believe that they are huge works as tall as a person.
When you actually see her work, you will be amazed at how much concentration is packed into these screens.

While ayaka nakamura is building a solid foundation and gaining a stable reputation, her work is still full of experimentation and challenge.
We look forward to seeing more of her work in the future.
