Apple TV+’s original series Ted Lasso returned with its third, and possibly last, season on March 15, 2023. The one-of-a-kind series has been praised for its humor, writing, and uplifting tone. The series’ soundscape has been popular amongst fans with its eclectic and high spirited syncs. Season 3 has been ranking on the Tunefind trending chart week after week and has claimed the #1 spot for the second week in a row. Last week’s episode, “Big Week” clinched the top spot on the chart with a folksy, lo-fi cover track. Last week’s top TV song is by an American folk trio from New York City.

‘Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright’ begins softly at the end of the episode when Ted hangs up on an emotional FaceTime call. He has just called his ex-wife, Michelle to speak his mind and share his feelings about her current relationship. The track continues to play as the end credits begin to roll.
‘Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right’ was written by Bob Dylan in 1962 and released on the 1963 album, The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan as well as the b-side of the ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ single. Dylan’s manager Albert Grossman also managed the popular folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary, and started offering Dylan’s songs to other artists to record.
In 1963, Peter, Paul, and Mary recorded their version of ‘Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright’. The track was one of three Dylan songs that Peter, Paul and Mary picked up for their third album, In the Wind. The trio’s version of the track is credited as the most popular version. The single reached No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 2 on Billboard’s Easy Listening charts.
Peter, Paul and Mary was a folk group that originated from New York City in 1961 during the American folk music revival. The group was composed of Peter Yarrow, Paul Stookey, and Mary Travers, and their music included original songs by Yarrow and Stookey, early songs by Bob Dylan, and covers of other folk artists. The trio achieved great success during the early and mid-1960s, with their first album becoming a chart-topper for several weeks. The trio played a significant role in popularizing the folk music revival.
In 1963 the group released ‘Puff, the Magic Dragon’, with music by Yarrow and words based on a poem that had been written by a fellow student at Cornell, Leonard Lipton. Despite rumors that the song refers to drugs, it is actually about the lost innocence of childhood. That year the group performed at the August 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, best remembered for Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
The trio’s work spans decades and after breaking up in 1970 to pursue solo careers, the group got back together in 1981. They continued to record albums and tour, playing around 45 shows a year. In 2004, Mary Travers was diagnosed with leukemia, leading to the cancellation of that year’s remaining tour dates. She and the rest of the trio resumed their tour on December 9, 2005, with a holiday performance at Carnegie Hall. On September 16, 2009, Travers died at age 72, of complications from chemotherapy. That same year Peter, Paul and Mary were inducted into the Hit Parade Hall of Fame.
