As an exciting year 2023 draws to its close, the University prepares for highlights coming up. The new year will start with the integration of the Max Planck Institute for International, European and Regulatory Procedural Law (MPI) on 1 January, which will become a new research centre, the Luxembourg Centre for European Law. Its 61 employees will join the University’s workforce, now close to 2,500 employees.

January 2024 will also mark a major change at the University’s Centre for Security, Trust and Reliability (SnT). Prof. Yves Le Traon will start his five-year mandate as the new Director of the SnT.

February will ring the opening of applications for admission to the University’s study programmes for the 2024-2025 academic year. For the first time, the study offer will include three new Bachelor of Nursing – Specialisations in General Care, in Maieutic Sciences – Midwifery and for Medical Imaging Technicians in Radiology. This offer completes the launch – in 2023 – of the Bachelor programmes in Nursing Sciences, through which the University supports the Luxembourg health system.

Early 2023, Prof. Jens Kreisel took up his mandate as new rector.

The last year was marked by the celebration of the University’s 20th anniversary, which was celebrated with an official event welcoming His Royal Highness the Grand Duke on Belval campus. The public lecture series organised as part of the campaign will be ongoing until February.

Finally, during the Graduation Week taking place from 11-15 December, 1,600 students received their diploma. Among these were more than 200 doctoral candidates receiving their diploma – an absolute record in the history of the University. Today the University of Luxembourg counts more than 1,000 PhD candidates among its 6,000 students.
