Scion's custom orange tC goes on sale

Scion has come up with a new, hot look for its Scion tC. It's a special edition.

Toyota's Scion brand has turned special editions of its cars into high art — and the latest carries the orange-and-black theme to the extreme.

It's the Scion tC Release Series 9.0, which the brand says is based on a concept car developed for custom car shows.

This tC combines "magma orange" paint with black accents to look as potent as possible. The design is based on a customization job by Jeremy Lookofsky of Cartel Customs.

Scion says 2,000 of these Scions have arrived in dealerships around the country.

Besides the paint, they have a center exhaust pipe, aerodynamics kit and alloy wheels and matching caps. The orange theme is carried through to the inside, where the color appears in the custom stitching and front seat belts.

"There won't be a way to miss the Scion tC Release Series 9.0," said Scion Vice President Doug Murtha in a statement. "This two-toned tC lets Scion fans have an everyday driver that looks like it's straight out of a car show."

Buyers have a choice of a six-speed manual transmission at a base price of $23,190 or a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters at $24,340. The delivery fee is an added $770.
