Selling my beloved Harman Kardon HK 990 Integrated Amplifier. Lightly used it's an absolute beast and certainly by far the best integrated amplifier ever made by HK. This amplifier was Sidney Harman's pet project and last attempt to bring true HiFi back to the Harman Kardon brand. Discontinued in 2011 after Sidney's death. Power and grace in spades you will not be disappointed in this now very rare piece. Stereophile's Recommended B component for years. I've personally compared this unit with Modwright, Rotel, and Luxman integrateds and I kept coming back to this unit - especially at it's price point - astonishing really. It easily performs with the best of them.
This particular unit is in very good condition top to bottom - not a blemish. It has low run hours used as part of a secondary system. The only knock (and the only reason it's a 7 - an easy 9 otherwise) is the DSP setting elicits some static on occasion. I'd never been a fan of the DSP setting even when it was working preferring to go straight through analog as to not influence or dilute the signal path just like most high end amplifiers. The DSP setting had a room correction that offered promise but was never quite perfected before the amplifier was discontinued. Under DSP everything gets digitized - even phono. the 'Direct' or analog just sounds better. You can still adjust subwoofer cut-off frequency and subwoofer level in analog mode. If one were to fix this issue from what I understand it would be a DSP chip replacement - plug and play. All other functions work flawlessly.
This amp is no lightweight - nearly 50lbs. Built like an absolute tank. True dual mono with a huge power supply and monstrous heat sinks. 150w @ 8ohm doubling to 300w @ 4ohm. Input definable balanced inputs (that I used for my DAC). HT/ Pre-amp by-pass. HK even provided 2 separate phono stage inputs - one for MM and a separate input for MC.
You will not be disappointed with this amplifier. Please reply with questions. Thanks!
