Lansing's Paige Brandt bumps a pass to her teammate Tuesday.

The Lansing volleyball team earned a lopsided win over Bonner Springs on Tuesday night, throttling the Braves 25-18, 25-14 and 25-8. The win improves the Lady Lions to 3-0 in the Kaw Valley League.

“That’s a big goal for us this year,” head coach Julie Slater said of repeating as conference champions.

The first set saw the Lady Lions establish their dominance early, Lori Angello slammed home a kill for a 1-0 lead and Paige Brandt served up the first 11 points of the game to give Lansing a commanding lead. The second game was more of the same, with Emma Zeck serving the game’s first seven points and Angello had kills for four of those points. Angello would have a big serving game too, with three straight aces in the set, with fellow seniors Gabby Hacker, Tawnee Hall and Haylee Marsteller taking care of business at the net by combining for five kills in the final eight points of the game.

The third set was all Lansing, with Hacker slamming four kills, Hall with three and Angello with six.

“We tried to spread it out more tonight,” Slater said. “I thought they did well. We made a few more hitting errors than we like, but it was a great opportunity to be aggressive and swing away.”

Angello finished with 21 kills while Hacker added 11 and Hall had seven. Marsteller had four kills and Amanda Dalbey had three. Dalbey and Hacker had five blocks apiece with Marsteller added three and Hall adding one.

Bri Lozenski had 35 assists and Marsteller added four assists in the effort. Paige Brandt had a team-high seven digs and Angello added six. Zeck, Marsteller and Lozenski each had five digs and Ashley Linaweaver and Jenna Hoyt had three and two digs, respectively. Brandt had three aces, as did Angello, and Hoyt added two aces in the win.

Lansing plays in a quad at Blue Valley Southwest on Thursday, also taking on Blue Valley Northwest and Paola at the event.

“Thursday will be good for us to go up against some real tough competition again,” Slater said. “Hopefully we respond well and get some wins.”

Lansing's Ashley Linaweaver sets a ball Tuesday.
