Millie Bobby Brown is ready for her future. The 19-year-old actor, who will have played Eleven on the sci-fi series Stranger Things for five seasons, recently told Women’s Wear Daily that she’s ready to leave behind the show that made her a household name.

“I think I’m ready. It’s been such a huge factor in part of my life, but it’s like graduating high school, it’s like senior year,” she said. “You’re ready to go and blossom and flourish and you’re grateful for the time you’ve had, but it’s time to create your own message and live your own life.”

Brown has starred on Stranger Things since she was 11 years old, when the series first premiered on Netflix in 2016. Now, with seven years and four hit seasons under her belt, Brown has one more season to film. Stranger Things was set to go into production this summer, but shooting has been stalled due to the Hollywood strikes—so as of yet there’s no release date for the fifth and final volume. As such, it’s unclear when Brown will officially graduate from the series.

Brown is not the only cast member who’s said she’s anticipating a new chapter. David Harbour, who stars as Eleven’s father figure, Jim Hopper, told Discussing Film this past winter that he’s also ready for the series to end. “What’s funny is when I started the show, I never ever wanted it to end,” he said. “That’s why I love the show. I think it’s a great show, even if I wasn’t in it. Now we’re almost nine years from filming the first season, and I think it is time for it to end.”

As for the future, Brown has plenty to look forward to. She’s starring as Princess Elodie in a new fantasy film, Damsel, set to come out later this year. Brown is releasing her first novel, Nineteen Steps, in mid-September. She is also engaged to Jake Bongiovi, son of Jon Bon Jovi, and is busy planning a wedding. Rather than a big public affair, Brown says she’s “drawing the curtains” of her wedding to protect her privacy.

“There are only so many moments in life that you get only once. And to have everyone’s opinions and eyes looking at that just feels unnatural to me,” she said. “So I feel it’s important to keep those things, those small precious moments in life, really close to your chest.”

Brown expanded on her need for privacy after Stranger Things, telling WWD that she tries “to keep a lot of people out.”

“I draw the curtains because I believe in privacy for my own sanity really, just to keep people out and lock that fence,” she continued. “But it’s nice to be able to open the curtains and let people see what I’m interested in, and to share that joy with others and see if they’re interested in what I’m interested in.”
