Campus directors awarded plaques for student performance

The campus directors at The Varnett Public School received plaques after earning an A and two Bs in the 2021-2022 Texas Education Agency's accountability ratings.

The awards were presented at a board of directors meeting on Monday, December 12, 2022.

Mr. Warner Ervin, interim superintendent of The Varnett Public School, presented the plaques to:

  • Ms. Gayle Voltz, East campus, A rating (exemplary)
  • Mr. Jesse Arps and Mrs. Cheyne Brown, Southwest and Early Childhood campuses, respectively, B rating (recognized)
  • Dr. Toron Wooldridge, Northeast campus, B rating (recognized)
The overall district rating was a B, based on a score of 89 from results of the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) tests taken by students in grades 3-8.

“We appreciate what they are doing and we know they will continue to strive for excellence,” Mr. Ervin said of the school leaders. “I want to thank you publicly and personally for the job that you’ve done.”

Dr. Matthew Plummer, president of Varnett’s board of directors, delivered this message:

“We only have one purpose, and that’s to take care of the kids that look like you and look like me,” Dr. Plummer said. “Remember, it’s not about you, it’s all about them.”
