Fagaceae

Quercus ithaburensis 'Hemelrijk Silver' Quercus ithaburensis 'Hemelrijk Silver'

Medium-size semi-evergreen with a broad oval crown growing to around 8 m tall. The young twigs are grey-green, the old bark is dark grey-brown and grooved. The oval leaves emerge inconspicuous silver-grey, turning grey-green later in the summer. This gives the whole tree a beautiful colour scheme. The leaves are shallow serrated-lobed. They are semi-evergreen and will fall if it is too cold. The tree was named after Robert and Jelena de Belder’s Hemelrijk estate (Arboretum Kalmthout) where the tree was selected. Sometimes this tree is called ‘Hemelrijk’, which leads to confusion because Q. ellispsoidalis also has a cultivar called ‘Hemelrijk’. Its correct name is ‘Hemelrijk Silver’ on account of the striking leaf colour. A beautiful, healthy park tree which has few demands as to soil, provided it is not too wet. Protect against severe frost and cold, drying wind.
Our trees can only be planted when they don't have any leaves. Due to the this we will start delivering again from November 2024.
