Molly Ringwald Elevates the 80s Mullet on the CFDA Red Carpet

Even a proverbial princess has a little rebel (or basket case) buried deep within—and as it turns out, letting the archetype out may inspire an of-the-moment haircut. Molly Ringwald turned heads on the CFDA Fashion Awards red carpet with a burnished, shaggy mullet that fit well within both the current narrative and that of her 1980s heyday.

The shag itself is not a new style for Ringwald, who has been sporting various iterations of the cut since 2022. But this evening's shape skewed particularly wolfish, exuding a devil-may-care air more synonymous with her Breakfast Club foils than her own ingenue origins. A crimson lip and pull of black liner aided the effect, as did Ringwald's signature copper hair (now a particularly covetable color).

The moment served as a reminder that today's multitude of mullet variants are born of the 1980s—and no one does 1980s quite like Molly Ringwald.
