In a way, the main Maplewood drag feels like a jump back in time. It was one of St. Louis’ first suburbs, predominantly built in the early 20th century, and many of the homes, buildings and signs are original. The only difference is those shops are now filled with innovative restaurants and boundary-pushing artisans, not to mention a hidden bowling alley and two of the country’s best craft breweries.

Maplewood
Side Project Cellar
Continuously voted one of the world’s best breweries, Side Project and its sour beers are not to be missed. Stop by the cellar for a drink, or, if you’re in town on the weekend, walk down the street to its brewery.

Schlafly Bottleworks
St. Louis’ largest craft brewer, Schlafly, makes Maplewood its home. Pop in for a meal, a brewery tour or the obvious: a beer. With 16 taps, plus bottled options, you’re sure to find something great.

Eddie’s Guitars
If you are a guitar aficionado, you have to stop at Eddie’s (if you can, call and make an appointment first). This is a serious shop, with handmade guitars upwards of $15,000.

Saratoga Lanes
Walk off Sutton Boulevard, head up the steps of an unassuming old office building, and enter the 100-year-old Saratoga Lanes, a hidden-away eight-lane bowling alley and 1950s time capsule.

Two restaurant vets got together to create one of the sexiest and most adventurous dinner experiences in St. Louis. Elmwood is all about sharing and trying new things.
