Baltimore rapper files lawsuit against former corrupt GTTF member
A Baltimore rapper arrested by a former member of the corrupt Gun Trace Task Force is taking his case to court.
Kevron Evans, who raps under the name, Young Moose, filed a lawsuit against convicted Officer Daniel Hersl.
The lawsuit seeks more than $1 million in damages. Lawyers claim then-officer Hersl unfairly targeted Evans and arrested him without cause.
According to the lawsuit, Hersl's harassment started in October 2012. That's when Evans’ lawyers claim Hersl planted crack cocaine on their client during a search.
Evans pleaded guilty in that case.
Then lawyers claim Hersl falsified charges that showed Evans violated his probation. That led to another arrest right before Evans was supposed to perform at a show.
Evans served what his defense team calls significant jail time for that charge, but his lawyers say their client did not commit a crime.
Evans lawyers said they don't know why Hersl targeted their client. Evans claimed Hersl did so to try and hurt his music career, which was taking off at the time.
The suit seeks to recoup financial damages caused by this damage to his reputation. Right now, Hersl is serving 18 years in federal prison racketeering charges connected to the corrupt GTTF.
When asked for reaction, Baltimore police said they are unable to comment on pending litigations.
