Dresden begins cleaning up after storm damage

DRESDEN, Tenn.– Residents and city workers are cleaning up after December 9th, 2023 storms.

 

Dresden Tennessee became affected by the tornado that hit the rural area of this town on Saturday.

The National Weather Service has shared that his storm is a continuation of the storm that affected Rutherford and Gibson County residents.

 

“The National Weather Services was out there today and they determined it was an EF1 tornado the damage was consist with 110 miles per hours winds,” Ray Wiggington, EMA Director for Weakley County shared.

 

Wiggington  says this began as a thunderstorm for this town and quickly turned into a tornado in 20 minutes.

 

“Within 20 minutes that had turn into a tornado warning. There was only about 8 minutes that passed so everything unfolded very quickly,” he added.

 

The damages throughout Dresden is mostly in the rural area affecting two business and their national guard armory building.

 

However, some residents have power except for the families whose homes became damaged due to the storm.

 

“We had four homes that were damaged, two of which was a complete lost. Out of that we had two people that were injured. As far as I understand, they are non life threatening injuries and they’re stable at this time,” Wiggington added.

 

EMA is encouraging residents to call their local EMA for any help regarding damage from this storm.
