Pauline Pusser investigation still on-going since 1967

MCNAIRY COUNTY, Tenn. – A case that started 57 years ago is still unsolved and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is asking for your help.

On August 12, 1967, Pauline Pusser was with her husband, Bufford Pusser, the Sheriff of McNairy County at the time.

They were on their way to a disturbance call in the early morning. Someone began firing at their vehicle and Pauline Pusser was hit. Bufford Pusser stopped the car to check on her injuries when the car came back and started firing again.

Pauline Pusser was fatally shot and the sheriff was shot in the face. After spending some time in a Memphis hospital, he returned to his position as sheriff.

There are rumors as to who may have been behind this. However, nobody has been charged or arrested.
