Staples announces changes to its executive team

Courtesy of Business Wire Staples has announced that Joe Doody, President North American Commercial, has been named Vice Chairman.

Staples announced changes to its executive team Thursday.

The Framingham-based office supply retailer said North American Commercial President Joe Doody will become the company’s vice chairman Feb. 2. This is a new position, according to company spokesman Mark Cautela.

Doody will be replaced by Shira Goodman, the company’s executive vice president for global growth. Doody will be responsible for some of the tasks formerly handled by Goodman, Cautela said.

Doody will be tasked with leading Staples’ strategic reinvention in his new role as well as overseeing company operations in Australia, New Zealand and high-growth markets. Goodman will oversee the company’s product line expansion and new branding campaign, both announced earlier this month.

The company is also conducting a one-year trial of Postal Service retail centers inside 82 of its stores, including all of its six Central Massachusetts locations.

Staples struggled with weak demand for “core” office supplies in 2013 and ended up closing 107 retail stores in North America and Europe.
