DB Turner, WR Catalon enter transfer portal

Arkansas defensive back Nick Turner (3) carries the ball, Saturday, April 17, 2021 during the third quarter of the Red-White spring football game at Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville.

An Arkansas defensive back and a wide receiver have entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Two days after the Razorbacks defeated Penn State 24-10 in the Outback Bowl, Nick Turner and Kendall Catalon are looking for new opportunities. The Turner news was first reported by Sam Spiegelman, a national recruiting analyst for Rivals.

Catalon made the announcement Monday afternoon in a post to his Twitter account.

Turner recorded 14 tackles as a Razorback, including 11 during the 2020 season. He had a career-high seven tackles against Alabama as a freshman.

In 2021, Turner played 17 defensive snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. The New Orleans native was primarily used in a special teams role, seeing the field for 67 snaps on kick coverage, 11 on kick return, 10 on punt return and 5 on punt coverage.

Turner initially signed with Arkansas in the 2020 class over scholarship offers from Tennessee, Penn State, Baylor, Houston and other programs. He was rated a 3-star prospect by Rivals, 247 Sports and ESPN.

Catalon, in a note, thanked Razorbacks fans for embracing him during his time at Arkansas. In 2019, he transferred to the program from Southern, where he played two seasons.

“I will cherish every game we won and memories with my teammates that will stick with me forever,” he wrote. “Thank God for the game of football. After talking with my family I have decided to enter the transfer portal for my last year.

“I am forever grateful for the time here and the Hill will always be home.”
