John was a writer and producer, known for Scarface (1932), Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison (1957) and Show Boat (1951).[1]

John was born 23 August 1902 in Evanston, Cook County, Illinois.[2][3]

He married Nancy Hume "Nana" Derr 25 June 1926 in Greenwich, Connecticut. [4]They were the parents of two children. They were divorced 3 July 1934.

He married Patricia Ruth Miller 11 September 1937 in Los Angeles.[5] They were the parents of cone child. They were divorced 28 September 1946.

He married Barbara Ann Bonnett 14 June 1948 in Los Angeles.[6] They were the parents of one child.

He married Muriel May McKinnon 16 October 1954 in Los Angeles.[7] John and Muriel were married until John's death in 1984.

He passed away 19 April 1984 in Hollywood, California at the age of 81. [8]

John Lee Mahin, 77, who wrote some of Hollywood's biggest screenplays, including "Red Dust," "Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison," "Quo Vadis" and "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," died in a Santa Monica hospital.
