St. George -- Verla McClellan Isom, age 84, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at Durham Care Assisted Living in St. George. She was born January 12, 1920 in Niter, Idaho, a daughter of Scott and Mildred Aylett McClellan.

She was married to Afton Isom May 18, 1942 in San Francisco, California. Two hours after the marriage ceremony Afton was shipped overseas for three years. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple.

Verla was raised and educated in Grace, Idaho. She graduated from the Latter-day Saints Hospital School of Nursing in 1941 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She lived her life as a nurse, giving love and care to those in need.

Surviving family include her: children, Sandra (Dale V.) Jones, of St. George, UT, Brenda (Alex) Mathers, of Ashland, OH, and Scott (Terri) Isom, of Las Vegas, NV; 14 grandchildren, Todd Jones, Melissa Stringham, Ryan Jones, Daniel Jones, Kim Shafer, David Jones, Shaun Jones, Brittany Snow, Jennifer Li, Brett Mathers, Seth Mathers, Sara Carter, Erin Isom, and Scott Isom; 18 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Karol Hodges, of Paul, Idaho, and Deloris Brighten, of Roy, UT. She was preceded in death by her spouse, Afton Isom, two brothers, Hollis McClellan, Arthur McClellan, and one sister, Avis Blodgett.

The family wishes to express their love and appreciation to Atria, Durham Care, and Hospice.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 12, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary Chape.

Interment will be in the Hurricane City Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
