Description
Stem solitary but branched from the middle. Sandy, neutral to alkaline soil in sun.
Flowering plants are harvested in summer and dried for infusions and liquid extracts.
Flowers
5-petalled flowers fused at the base, borne in dense, lax, flat-topped clusters, bright pink with very distinct yellow stamens.
Leaves
Elliptic oval leaf. Basal rosette of oval leaves, 5 cm long. Upper leaves smaller and opposite.
Fruits Seeds
Capsule: cylindrical.
Medical
Flowering tops: dried, to stimulate liver and gall bladder, to increase the bile flow and to improve appetite and digestion.
