Very similar to Rumex obtusifolius except that the calyx of Rumex crispus has smooth margins.

Flowers

Each flower stalk has numerous whorls of 10-25 slender stalked male, female, or both male and female flowers, tinged yellow to pink, 3-sided, with two series of petals, outer ones smaller than the inner.

Leaves

Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. Long, pointed, with serrated or undulated margins, wrinkled.

Fruits Seeds

Achene: a string of small dry 1-seeded fruit. The seed is 3 edged, glossy and red, surrounded by valves, 1 mm across.

Edible

The new leaves have an acidic taste and are used for culinary purposes, not recommended for those who suffer from rheumatism, arthritis, gout and kidney stones.
