THQ's Divisional Executive Vice President Jack Sorenson dove into the debate over the death of PC gaming with the claim that "disc-based software is on a permanent decline."

Sorenson believes the market is shifting dramatically away from traditional retail models, at least in the PC space, where the constant network connectivity of the average home computer allows for new, online-only business models to emerge.

As a group, THQ has already begun anticipating this eventuality, according to Sorenson.

"You can look at the numbers and clearly there's a downward trend," he said. "We still think there's a market there, it's just where it's at. And then I think you have to augment the boxed product with digital download."
